Abstract
In Iran, to provide cheaper energy to industry and society, a portion of the energy production costs is subsidized from public revenues. Furthermore, the waste of produced energy, in addition to significant financial losses, causes undeniable damage to the national and global environment. This research, aimed at investigating the impact of different building materials on energy consumption, examines the amount of energy waste in a residential building using DesignBuilder software. The results show that using foam concrete, compared to using pumice, results in 56.788 kWh less energy (total electricity and gas consumption) consumed per year. Also, using foam concrete instead of pumice can result in nearly 1% in economic energy cost savings per year.
