Laboratory evaluation of fresh, mechanical properties and durability in self-compacting concrete based on cement and a combination of ceramic and glass powder under different processing conditions

Abstract
Cement production as a principal component of concrete releases huge amounts of co2 leading to harmful environmental effects. Moreover, the noticeable amount of industrial waste is another environmental issue and the reuse of them as partial replacement for cement is a step forward to producing eco-friendly concrete. This paper describes the combined influence of Ceramic Powder (CP) to replace 10 percent and Glass Powder (GP) to replace 5, 10, 15 and 20 percent of the cement in Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC). This research evaluates the mechanical and durability characteristics under different conditions of curing in standard water and normal weather and Sodium Chloride Solution (SCS). In this research, 5 samples were cast to compare the results with the original sample. Results determined that CP and GP improve the properties of fresh concrete. It also enhances the mechanical properties and durability of SCC, especially in SCS. Substitutions often decrease the amount of water absorption and enhance electrical resistance. The best results are for the sample containing 10 percent CP and GP in which maximum compressive strength at 28 and 90 days in normal weather are 33 and 14 percent and in standard water are 27 and 23 percent more than ordinary concrete.
